Britney Spears’ Las Vegas marriage to childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander in 2004 quickly became a global joke after it was annulled after just two days.

The pair tied the knot in a 5:30am ceremony in Sin City with the Toxic singer wearing ripped jeans, a crop-top and a white baseball cap.

The pair looked worse for wear in their ceremony photos after days of partying and a matter of 55 hours after saying “I do” their marriage was over after the young superstar’s high-powered legal team forced an annulment.

Britney went on to later wed Kevin Federline just eight months later and the pair had two kids together, leaving Jason firmly in the singer’s past.

But now, as details of Britney’s turbulent conservatorship come to life, her first husband has spoke out about the “controlling forces” that brought about the pair’s demise.

Speaking to the Mail On Sunday, Jason says the “destruction” of their marriage should have been taken more seriously at the time and admits it was certainly a sign of what was later to come.

Just four years later, Britney was the subject of a strict conservatorship which meant her father Jamie, now 69, was put in charge of all aspects of her life – including her £36 million fortune.
