It’s often said, music has the power to heal. One act competing on America’s Got Talent saves lives, for real.

On Tuesday’s (June 1) season 16 premiere of AGT, viewers got a touch of inspiration from New York’s Northwell Health Nurse Choir, a collection of frontline workers.

In the recorded segment, members of the choir spoke of the trauma of COVID, the sudden, grim impact on patients and their own families getting sick.

For their TV appearance, the professional nurses created a mashup of “Lean On Me” and “Stand By Me,” with gorgeous harmonies, dance sequences and some impressive solos.

It was a performance filled with love and hope, just the message the choir wanted to get across.

As the performance wrapped, the health workers were greeted with a standing ovation from the audience and the four judges. “What do I think?” responded Simon Cowell. “We need you, the world needs you.” The famously acerbic Brit was touched by what he saw. “I’m going to remember this audition,” he remarked.
