Even with Season C yet to wrap up — as state volleyball takes place this upcoming week — local athletes wasted no time embarking on Season D, the fourth and final season of the school year within the Colorado High School Activities Association’s modified sports calendar.

This may have been the first full week of Season D action, but there have already been plenty of highlights.

Among them:

Two-time defending Class 3A state baseball champion University opened its season — its first season since 2019, with the ’20 season canceled because of COVID-19 — with a pair of wins against quality Patriot League contenders. The Bulldogs beat Sterling 6-3 on Monday then shut out Resurrection Christian 9-0 on Wednesday. University faced Resurrection Christian again Friday afternoon. At publication time, a result for that game wasn’t final.

Perennial 3A baseball contender, Eaton, kicked off its campaign with a pair of shutout wins against Brush. The Reds’ opening-season series was highlighted by senior Logan Moser’s complete-game no-hitter in Eaton’s 3-0 win against the Beetdiggers on Thursday. Moser struck out 13 and walked just one.
