Secret Sounds is hosting a new event series, as part of Sydney Solstice, to celebrate that quintessential pairing: music and food. Over three dinners and one brunch – three at Mary’s Underground, the fourth at a surprise venue – it’s bringing together musicians with top chefs for concept-fuelled meals that combine great eats with a dose of nostalgia and plenty of fun tunes.

First up on June 10 is a celebration of Aboriginal culture, as legendary musician Archie Roach partners with Bundjalung celebrity chef Mark Olive. Olive will tell the story of his heritage via dishes made using native Australian ingredients, as Roach plays tunes and tells stories of his people and land.

On June 12, settle in for “Dinner at Nonna’s”, with the dream pairing of slick muso Donny Benet and Fabbrica head chef Toby Stansfield. Mr Experience will ply diners with his retro ’80s-inspired tunes, paying tribute to his love of Italo disco and his Italian heritage. Meanwhile, Stansfield will ply guests with handmade pastas, matched with minimum-intervention Italian wine.

Come June 13, Ten Hats – a collective of four young local talents Anna Ugarte-Carral (head chef at The Old Fitz), Elizabeth Mitchell (Alberto’s Lounge sous chef), Ella Stening (manager Native Drops Surry Hills) and Maddison Costello (Sidehustle DJs), which hosts regular pop-up events – will team up with muso Clypso for a Sunday brunch like no other. Hit the dance floor while snacking on fancy breakfast snacks and morning-friendly cocktails.
